In bulk materials handling, the function of the Spraypole ‘P’ Series Secondary Conveyor Belt Cleaner is to remove fine and sticky materials from the belt after the Primary ‘H’ Series cleaner has removed the course carry back.
In terms of volume removed, the Spraypole ‘P’ Series cleaner does not appear to be as effective as the Primary ‘H’ Series cleaner. However, this is not the case. Fine and sticky material clinging to the belt impacts on conveyor performance, safety around the conveyor and the environment. It is recommended that water is applied to the belt to achieve optimum belt cleaning performance.
A typical “Wet” set up would incorporate sprays within the belt cleaner pole, to place fines in suspension and remove them. A tertiary ‘P’ Series conveyor belt cleaner may also be installed to remove any residual water.
NOTE: SPRAYPOLE ‘P’ SERIES CLEANERS ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR INSTALLATION ON REVERSING BELTS. ‘R’ SERIES CLEANERS
SHOULD BE USED IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.
The addition of water as an aid to belt cleaning provides two significant benefits:
1. A purpose built Spray Bar minimises the volume of water used and places fines into a fluid suspension so that the tips of the secondary conveyor belt cleaner can create a shear path and make contact with the belt cover rather than skid over the fines. This enables a far higher rate of bulk material removal.
2. The added water acts as a lubricant between the conveyor belt cover and cleaner tips so that belt cover life is significantly increased. This is particularly so on short centred conveyors with high cycle rates. Similarly, tip life is also extended and lower cleaner loads are required.
