K-Snap-Loc®: 3+ Years Without Adjustment, Cleanup or Replacement.

OVERVIEW

Our client is a leading quarry operation in Gippsland, Victoria, supplying high-quality basalt aggregates to the construction industry. Operating multiple conveyor systems handling up to 600 TPH, the site relies on efficient material containment to maintain productivity, housekeeping standards, and workplace safety.

With material handling performance directly impacting maintenance requirements and operational efficiency, the quarry sought a more reliable conveyor sealing solution to address ongoing dust and spillage issues.

CHALLENGE

  • Regular skirting wear and frequent change-outs.
  • Dust emissions and material spillage from transfer points.
  • Ongoing cleanup requirements consuming maintenance resources.
  • Increased OHS risks associated with dust exposure and housekeeping activities

The quarry had been experiencing persistent issues with its existing rubber skirting system. Rapid wear of the skirting required frequent adjustments and replacement, resulting in ineffective sealing performance and recurring dust and spillage problems.

Escaping material created ongoing cleanup requirements around the conveyor, increasing maintenance labour while exposing personnel to dust, slip hazards, and additional interaction with operating plant.

The site required a long-lasting sealing solution capable of improving containment while significantly reducing maintenance intervention.

SOLUTION

Kinder Australia recommended the K-Snap-Loc® Dust Seal System as a replacement for the existing rubber skirting arrangement. Leveraging a proven design that maintains a consistent seal against the conveyor belt, K-Snap-Loc® was selected to improve dust suppression, eliminate spillage, and minimise ongoing maintenance requirements.

The system was installed efficiently with minimal disruption to operations. Site personnel reported a straightforward installation process using the existing Unistrut framework, highlighting the simplicity of upgrading from the previous skirting system.

Designed for extended wear life and reduced adjustment requirements, the K-Snap-Loc® system provided the quarry with a reliable, low-maintenance sealing solution capable of supporting long-term operational performance while improving housekeeping and safety outcomes.

RESULTS

  • No clean-up required following install.
  • No skirting adjustments required since install.
  • Original skirting remains in service after more than 3 years.
  • Significant reduction in dust and maintenance issues.
  • Successfully expanded across 4 additional conveyor systems.

Following installation, the benefits were immediate and sustained. Dust and material spillage were effectively eliminated, removing the need for ongoing cleanup activities around the conveyor. Improved containment enhanced housekeeping standards and reduced potential OHS risks associated with dust exposure and slip hazards.

The K-Snap-Loc® system has operated continuously without requiring adjustment or replacement, delivering more than three years of service life from the original installation. By eliminating routine skirting maintenance and reducing manual cleanup activities, the site has significantly lowered maintenance labour requirements while improving workplace safety.

The success of the installation led to the rollout of K-Snap-Loc® across four additional conveyor systems and contributed to the adoption of further Kinder solutions throughout the quarry operation.
