Last Friday, Meagan Ferguson (HR Manager), Jenny Leung (Senior Marketing Specialist), and Jodie Couch (Customer Service Officer) traded their office attire for hard hats, steel boots, and hi-vis gear as they participated in the Institute of Quarrying’s Victorian Branch Woman in Quarrying Site Tour at Lysterfield Quarry, followed by a lunch at Park Hyatt in Scoresby. This year’s event was a sell-out, drawing over 140 women and supporters eager to engage with the IQA’s initiatives in quarrying.
Located 30km southeast of Melbourne, nestled in the Southern foothills of Mount Dandenong, Lysterfield Quarry welcomed attendees with a warm reception from key site managers. They provided an insightful overview of the site’s operations, highlighting its commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and innovation. The history of the site, its strategic importance, and the diverse range of products extracted and processes employed were also shared.
Among the quarry’s output are concrete aggregates, rail ballast, crushed rock, and recycled products, essential for major infrastructure projects in Melbourne such as Eastlink and Peninsula Link. The group had the unique opportunity to observe the expansive quarry from an observation deck, capturing memorable moments and gaining a sense of its impressive scale.
The day culminated in a lunch featuring guest panel presentations from senior technical, operational, and project leaders. Discussions centred on the pivotal role of women in the quarrying industry, opportunities for training and career advancement, and fostering inclusivity and diversity.
Kinder Australia, as a proud main sponsor of the Institute of Quarrying, continues to support and advocate for the advancement of women in this critical sector.
